Darling's retirement complex to have 30 more units 2008-04-24
The much respected not-for-profit Goeie Hoop Behuisingsmaatskappy, an offshoot of the SKDB NG Kerk and now in the 45th year of its existence (with some 50 old age, children’s and other welfare type developments to its credit) is launching a R25 million extension to its existing Groeneweide Retirement Building at Darling, one the most affordable in the entire Western Cape.

The sales for the project are being handled by the Rawson Properties Darling office, which is owned by David and Anne-Marie Evans and run by Peter and Marijanne van Nieuwenhoven.

Groeneweide will be building 30 new units, some as an extension to the existing 30 year old building and some (the more expensive) in freestanding blocks, with their own entrance, behind the existing complex. The complex will be completely secure, with controlled access to the public.

Floor sizes will vary from 49m² to 76m². On offer are two sizes of one bedroom apartments and two types of two bedroom apartments, the largest being single storey and with their own garages.

Buyers here will become the owners of a “Life Right” to live in the village until their deaths and this, along with small monthly levies, will entitle them to a daily midday meal in the centre’s dining room and to daily cleaning and upkeep services. The complex will also provide medical and laundry services and a hair salon .

Groeneweide, says Marijanne van Nieuwenhoven is a “mature” retirement village: it caters for people in all stages of health, from the age of 55. Those requiring 24 hour care can move to the 30 bed frail-care unit. A new convalescent section will be built for use by those recovering from hospital stays and operations.

Marijanne Van Nieuwenhoven said that Groeneweide is now 30 years old and has made a name for itself as an hospitable, cheerful retirement village where people are happy. Sunday morning services from the local NG Kerk are relayed through to Groeneweide’s communal area, enabling all who so wish to participate in worship.

Rawson Properties, she said, has had a relationship with the home for many years and has been involved in a number of fundraising activities on their behalf. All those who are interested in the project should contact Antoinette Versfeld on 082 603 5151. Versfeld said that that she is very grateful to be able to “give something back to the community” by getting involved in this project.
